How to adjust you car seat correctly

Do you have your car seat in the best driving position for comfortable driving and clear vision, or do you just keep it where it is because that’s how you have always done it and it feels familiar?

Let’s cover the simple tips to help you adjust your car seat to the optimum position.

Step One – Distance from the pedals

Sit into the driver’s seat comfortably without too much gap between your back and the seat.

Place your right foot onto the brake and press to the floor. In this braking position you should have a little bend in the knee. This is the correct distance.

You don’t want to be too close that when braking your knee hits the steering wheel column or too far away that you don’t have enough power in your leg to fully engage the brakes should you need to.

Step Two – Seat Height

Most cars will allow you to adjust the height of the seat both up and down. You want to ensure that you have a clear vision of both the dashboard instruments and the road ahead. Too low and your vision might be obscured and too high you might be dropping your eyesight too short and not able to scan ahead.

Step Three – Steering wheel

You can usually adjust the steering wheel both up and down and in and out. The perfect position is when your hands are on the steering wheel at 9 and 3 and you have a comfortable bend in your elbows.

This allows you to steer comfortably as well as use the indicators without needing to let go of the wheel.

Step Four – Posture

How far back do you have the angle of your car seat? We usually don’t adjust this as frequently, however this can make all the difference in the comfort of your drive and your posture! You want the angle to be where you feel even support on your back.

It might take you a bit of getting used to if you have made a few adjustments! Now it’s time to adjust our mirrors. Read how to here.
